Nurse Caps

In the past twenty years, I have seen a lot of changes in the nursing profession. As a 1990 graduate of the RN program at La. Tech University, this is the style nursing cap that I wore during school and at pinning. (That's the ceremony when you get your official school nursing pin & light your Nightengale lamp & pledge the Nightengale creed.) I will have to admit, I detested wearing the nursing cap so badly that I did not even save one to show my children/grandchildren one day! I guess enough time has passed by that I kind of regret not keeping one... oh, well! However, I did have one really big issue with the whole nursing cap thing. We had several male nursing students in our class and THEY didn't have to wear the cap, so why should I? I guess the school administration agreed and our graduating class was the last class in La. Tech's nursing school history that wore the traditional nursing cap!

Nurse Mates

Don't laugh! My first pair of nursing shoes circa 1988 looked a lot like these. They were Nurse Mates in traditional white. I thought they were cute & I guess they were at the time. At least me & my best friend Lisa (who was also in nursing school with me at the time) thought so. We both had a pair! Cute? Maybe. Comfortable? Definitely not! However, when you have to wear the white nursing cap, you had to have cute shoes to at least, in an attempt to balance it out. So, we sacraficed. Cute for comfort.

Rating (1-10): Cute: 8 (Then) or 5 (Now), Comfort: 5 (I'm being generous), Quality: 9 ( I never did wear them out.) Price: 7 (Probably about $40 in 1988). Average Rating: 6.5
